Preserved specimens are typically vacuumed-sealed and shipped in a box for maximum space efficiency. If you would like special packaging, please ask! We can also ship in pails, jars, and in special quantities. Please note: Price for pails may increase costs of shipping and handling. If you request pails, a member of our customer service team will contact you with updated order totals.
Most of our preserved specimens should be good for 6 months – 1 year. These specimens should be stored at room temperature, out of the heat and direct sunlight. It is OK to refrigerate the specimens but do not freeze them.
Proper disposal of preserved specimens will vary from state to state, and in some cases, county to county. Please check with your local authorities for proper disposal requirements.
Many of our preserved specimens have an upgrade option to include latex injections to better view the circulatory system. Single injection includes a red latex injected into the arteries. Double injection includes both a red latex injected into the arteries plus blue latex injected into the veins. Triple injection includes the red and blue, plus a yellow latex injection into the hepatic portal. (Sharks are different. Double injection includes red latex into the arteries and yellow latex into the hepatic portal)
That’s a tough question. We are not able to give a shipping estimate over the phone. Shipping is calculated on weight and location of delivery, and preserved specimens will all weigh something different. In some cases, we can give our best guess, but it will not be the final amount.
In most cases, our items are shipped via UPS ground and can take 3-5 business days to arrive at your location. Please contact us if you need expedited shipping as it is not an available option online.
Generally, a compound microscope is used to look at very small items on slides – like blood cells, plant cells, mitosis, meiosis. A compound microscope can be either monocular or binocular. A typical compound microscope would have magnification of 40x, 100x, & 400x, and sometimes 1000x (oil).
A Stereomicroscope is generally used for looking at a larger item. Stereos work well for bugs, coins, rocks – objects that are more “3-D”. A stereomicroscope is usually binocular, but does not have to be. A stereo scope will often have magnification of 10x and 30x, or 20x and 40x. More expensive stereomicroscope will “zoom” magnification between these ranges.
